vivosmart mainGamin has announced its second activity tracker, the Vivosmart. This follows up on the original Vivofit and adds a host of new features.

Like its predecessor the Vivosmart learns about your individual fitness levels and sets personalised daily goals, and it follows the current trend in adding more integration with your phone. So, the Vivosmart can provide notifications of incoming texts, emails and calls via gentle vibration alerts and preview on your wrist as you exercise. Vibration alerts can also remind you of meetings or that you have been inactive for too long.

Synchronisation with the Garmin Connect Mobile App is automatic, and a link to MyFitnessPal can provide an accurate count of calories consumed – providing a complete picture of daily activity and nutrition.

Double tapping the Vivosmart’s OLED screen brings up a menu from which you can see everything from the time and date, to number of steps taken, the distance you have covered, calories and countdown to a personalised daily goal. A Move Bar, with five segments which fill in after an hour of inactivity, reminds you when you have been sitting down for too long with a discreet vibration and a visual display.

The Vivosmart is water resistant to 50m and has a battery life of up to seven days. It is compatible with heart rate monitor, bike speed sensors and Garmin’s VIRB action camera.

It will be available in October in five colours: berry, purple, blue, black and slate. It comes in two sizes. It is priced at £139.99
