Posture problems are a leading cause of back pain, and LUMOback aims to help you improve posture and avoid that back pain. It us a lightweight belt you wear around your waist under clothing that measures pelvic tilt.
If you slouch, lean forward or back or shift weight to one side, the LUMOback sensor gently vibrates to remind you to sit up straight.
More than that, it sends information to an app on your iPhone via Bluetooth. On the phone an avatar tracks your activities in realtime – when you stand it stands, when you walk, run, sit or sleep it does the same. it looks sad when you slouch, happy when you have a straight back.
As well as tracking your posture and giving feedback such as a posture score, the app counts steps taken, distance travelled and calories burned. It also gathers information on time spent sitting and standing, and you get a daily ‘posture score’ so that you can monitor progress towards better posture.
LUMOback is compatible with iPhone 5S, 5C, 5 and 4S, iPad 3rd and 4th gen, iPad Mini and iPod Touch 5th gen. An Android app is on the way.
The LUMOback costs £129.95. I have one and I’m going to be putting it through its paces in the coming weeks.
